Zac Slay has been a long time friend of many in the Reality community; some of you were blessed to hear him speak at this year's Reality Forum. What a gift that he chose to move to Durham last summer to spend a year working at Reality, providing program support and bringing kind presence, theological depth and wisdom to us all!
Man, life is crazy busy! Acknowledging this beckons me to take a deep breath; I then hear Holy Spirit’s whisper. “Right now, in this moment… Rest!”
As the oldest of four, I remember my sweet Moma coming home after a long workday just to share every second with her little ones. For a single mother to faithfully give all of herself daily to raise her beloved children, this is certainly the epitome of busy. But as I recall Moma’s peace in knowing God is faithful, her joy in calling us her own and her love that continuously flowed… there’s no doubt this fearless woman is a living testimony of what it means to truly rest!
If you’ve spent any time at the Reality Center or with anyone who has, you’ve probably found comfort in a motto that drives our daily mission… “I AM For You!” Whenever I hear this, I’m in such awe of my Abba Father’s love for me! This profound saying also inspires me to pay special attention to the beautiful people I’m blessed to share life with in this community! Though, the depth of truth proclaimed within these words is much deeper than we can imagine; it’s based upon the Father’s and Son’s perfect relationship!
To proclaim “I AM For You!” is to delve boldly into the life of others, unashamed of Abba’s love for every person, while looking beyond the various issues that so often divide. In considering our motto’s scriptural foundation, Holy Spirit led me to Hebrews 13:5 “I will never leave you nor forsake you!” And in Matthew, Jesus says “I am always with you!”
Always! Is there a timeframe that might be excluded from always? Haha, most certainly not! For Abba and Jesus in the Spirit are always with us, always for us… every day, moment by moment! This is so exciting, and it’s in His ever-presence that we experience authentic love, pure joy and abundant peace!
So, as we stand in awe of our God’s everlasting love for us, may we hear the sweet voice of our Lover, saying “Beloved, in this moment…Rest in My Love!”
