A Reason to Celebrate!

A Reason to Celebrate!

In 2011 we started the first half-day of Daytime at the  Reality Center in response to our growing awareness that many of our friends were yearning for something do during the day.  Six years later, we have five full days of programming with 94 participants who each come one or two times/week.  The days are filled with zumba, cooking, Spanish, basketball, swimming, gardening, serving at Meals on Wheels , BINGO at the nursing home and more! People are experiencing belonging, discovering their gifts, learning new things and deepening in knowing and being known.

In light of this tremendous growth, we are thrilled to announce that we have (finally) hired a full-time Daytime Coordinator!  Many of you heard me say at the Talent Show in April that we were longing to hire more staff and also that we really need a wheelchair accessible van.  When enough money came in that night to choose one or the other, we enthusiastically chose staff.

So please join me in welcoming Alisa Ginyard to the Reality team! Alisa moved with her family to the area 3 ½ years ago and her son David (known to any who were at the Talent Show as David the Cartoonist) got involved at Reality right away.  Alisa started volunteering in the kitchen a few months later, and soon also at Daytime.  Their whole family is much beloved by us all and it is such a delight to have Alisa full-time at Reality!
Alisa brings many years experience working at the State Department in DC and most recently at Ronald McDonald House in Durham. More importantly, she brings warmth and kindness, an open and listening spirit , wisdom and insight.  We are already better because of her presence with us.
As we reflect on all that God has wrought at Reality, we hope you'll join us in celebrating our 10 Year Anniversary this Saturday, 6-8, at the Reality Center!
Gratefully,
Susan McSwain, Executive Director
